Wisconsin AmeriCorps Disaster Team
Summary of Initiative:
The Wisconsin AmeriCorps Disaster Team is a team of AmeriCorps members from across the state of Wisconsin willing to help respond to disasters. As a member of the disaster team, you will receive training to effectively help respond and recover from disasters and participate in statewide exercises with other disaster response organizations. Throughout the year, participants will have access to various training options, participate in monthly cohort meetings, and, if needed, volunteer in response to a disaster.
The Wisconsin AmeriCorps Disaster Team is open to all AmeriCorps members and program staff with Wisconsin AmeriCorps programs.
Training
We will be meeting virtually the third Thursday of the month, starting in November, at 1pm. Meetings will generally last an hour.
To join the disaster team, please fill out this form: https://forms.office.com/g/mLirbnLReB. Or email Rachel Donaldson at rachel.donaldson@wisconsin.gov
One way AmeriCorps members can remotely help during disasters is to take 211 Disaster Calls. During times of disasters, 211 is often tasked with collecting damage reports and directing disaster victims to resources. If you’re interested in assisting with 211 Disaster Calls please register for their February training here: https://forms.office.com/g/6uSeVDA8v8
